On 11 February 2026, the National Research Council of Italy (CNR) hosted the scientific event “Drought and soil use in agriculture: scenarios and economic evaluation. Results of the NEUTRALISE project.” (Siccità ed uso del suolo in agricoltura: scenari e valutazioni economiche. Risultati del progetto NEUTRALISE) at its headquarters in Rome. The meeting focused on drought, agricultural land use, and the economic implications for Italian farming, and it concluded with a round table dedicated to future perspectives and ongoing initiatives.
Dr. Chiara Piccini, Senior Technologist at CREA – Agriculture and Environment, was invited as a speaker in the final round table session. In her intervention, she presented the Carbon Farming MED project, highlighting CREA’s role and sharing key insights from the project.
Dr. Piccini introduced:
- the overall concept and scope of the Carbon Farming MED project,
- its objectives to enhance soil carbon sequestration and strengthen the resilience of Mediterranean farming systems,
- the expected outcomes that will support climate‑smart agriculture and evidence‑based policy design.
The event brought together researchers, institutions, and policymakers to discuss the results of the NEUTRALISE project and explore future developments in climate adaptation and sustainable land management. With the participation of CREA and the presentation of CFMED, the event also provided an important opportunity to showcase ongoing European efforts towards climate‑neutral agriculture.
