EuroMed Academy Webinar: Carbon Farming in the Mediterranean

Organised within: Carbon Farming MED project/ EuroMed Academy
Partner in charge of the activity: CENER 21

Date: 13 May 2026
Time: 10:00–13:00 (CET)
Format: Online (Zoom)

About the Event

This webinar is organised within the Carbon Farming MED project as part of the Interreg Euro-MED Academy, the project’s structured learning and capacity-building programme.

The session will explore how carbon farming and agroforestry approaches can support more resilient and sustainable agricultural systems in the Mediterranean region. Bringing together perspectives from science, policy and practice, it will connect real-world farming challenges with practical solutions, policy frameworks, and tools developed within the project.

Who should attend

The webinar is open to:

  • Farmers and land managers
  • Policy makers and institutional stakeholders
  • Researchers and practitioners in agriculture, climate and sustainability

What will be covered

The webinar will provide:

  • An introduction to carbon farming and its relevance in Mediterranean contexts
  • Insights into key environmental challenges affecting agriculture, including soil degradation, water scarcity, and climate variability
  • Practical carbon farming and regenerative agriculture approaches
  • The role of agroforestry in resilient land-use systems
  • An overview of European policy frameworks and enabling conditions for uptake
  • A presentation of the Carbon Farming MED MRV (Monitoring, Reporting and Verification) tool supporting the structured assessment and comparison of practices
  • An interactive discussion and exchange with experts and participants

Why it matters

Mediterranean agriculture is increasingly exposed to climate pressures, requiring approaches that strengthen resilience while contributing to climate mitigation. Carbon farming offers a pathway to address both challenges by improving soil health, enhancing carbon sequestration, and supporting long-term sustainability.

This webinar contributes to the Carbon Farming MED project’s broader objective of supporting the transition towards climate-smart agriculture and facilitating the uptake of carbon farming practices across the region.
